Welcome to Barclay Academy

It is a pleasure to welcome your child into our school community as they begin their journey into Year 7. Barclay Academy is a
thriving and ambitious school with a clear purpose: to ensure every student achieves their full potential and leaves us ready for a life filled with opportunity and choice.
At Barclay, we believe in Freedom through Education. This guides the high expectations we hold for all our students and reflects our commitment to giving every young person the knowledge, confidence and character to flourish. Our expert teachers deliver a knowledge-rich curriculum, supported by strong pastoral care that ensures students feel valued, secure and ready to learn from their very first day.
We know that the transition to secondary school is an important milestone. That is why we work closely with families and primary schools to ensure that each child settles quickly and feels part of our calm, purposeful and welcoming environment. Alongside their academic studies, students will have access to a wide range of extracurricular and Raising Aspirations opportunities to help them discover new interests, develop their talents and broaden their horizons.
Thank you for choosing Barclay Academy. We are delighted to be part of this next chapter in your child’s education and look forward to supporting them every step of the way.
Scarlett O'Sullivan
Principal

What does it mean to be part of Future Academies?

Future Academies was established to improve the life chances of children through an education that is built on the importance of knowledge-rich teaching by subject experts and of raising the aspirations of all. Our family of schools has built a reputation of achieving the highest standards for all out students.

At Future we want children to leave school with the capabilities to lead a life of choice, opportunity having achieved Libertas Per Cultum. To make this happen, we know children need both academic achievement and strength of character. Underpinning both achievement and character in schools is the work of everyone in our organisation creating and culturing an inclusive community for all learners.

The name ‘Future’ is important to us because the education we provide today is to ensure all our children can achieve the best in their future lives. We are an inclusive community where all children are welcomed and challenged to be the best they can be. With the support of our sponsors, Future, we are able to engage with the best teachers, the best universities and a wide range of the most prominent employers in the country to ensure that all children are equipped with the knowledge and desire to be the best in whatever path they wish to follow in their futures.

Year 6 Transition

Below you can access resources and information about the transition from primary to secondary school. We recognise that the move from primary school to secondary school is a big one – often for parents and carers as much as for the students! Our extensive transition programme allows us to make the process a positive and exciting experience for our students.

Each year at Barclay Academy, we have worked to tailor and refine our transition programme to ensure a supportive transition for every child that joins us. Students who are offered a place at Barclay Academy will be invited to attend transition events during the summer term. These days give pupils the opportunity to explore our outstanding curriculum, get to know our highly skilled teaching staff, and build confidence before starting in September. At the beginning of the Autumn term, Year 7 students take part in dedicated induction days, including tailored lessons and assemblies designed to help them understand how to succeed at Barclay Academy. Through strong partnerships with primary schools locally and further afield, we are able to support a smooth and well-planned transition, enabling new Year 7 students to settle quickly and feel comfortable in their new environment.
