Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing a safe and secure digital environment for our students, we are implementing Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for all student accounts.

What is Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)?

MFA is a security measure that requires users to verify their identity through multiple steps before accessing their accounts. Instead of just entering a username and password, students will also need to provide an additional piece of information, such as a code sent to their/a mobile (so long as the student has access to this device, to confirm their identity.

Why is MFA Important?

In today's digital age, protecting sensitive information is paramount. Passwords alone are no longer sufficient to safeguard against cyber threats. Implementing MFA adds an extra layer of security, ensuring that even if a password is compromised, unauthorised access to student accounts is prevented. The key benefits of MFA include:

  1. Enhanced Security: MFA significantly reduces the risk of unauthorised access, protecting personal and academic information.
  2. Protection against Phishing: MFA helps safeguard against phishing attacks, which are attempts to steal login information by impersonating legitimate websites.
  3. Reduction of Cybersecurity Threats: By adding an extra verification step, we make our systems less appealing to cybercriminals, thereby reducing potential threats.
  4. Protect Student Information: Safeguarding the personal and academic information of our students is a top priority. MFA significantly reduces the risk of data breaches.
  5. Comply with Security Standards: Adopting MFA aligns with best practices and regulatory standards for cybersecurity in educational institutions.
  6. Promote Digital Responsibility: Teaching our students the importance of cybersecurity practices, including the use of MFA, prepares them for a safer digital future.

Why Are We Implementing MFA?

The safety and security of our students' digital experiences are our top priorities. With the increasing number of cyber threats, it is essential to take proactive measures to protect our educational community. Implementing MFA is a crucial step in enhancing our cybersecurity framework, ensuring that student information remains secure.
